“It comes down to the question of not, ‘What’s wrong with you? What’s wrong with that kid? Why is he behaving like that,’ to, ‘What happened to you,’ which is a very different question.”
Oprah Winfrey recently discovered something MCCH has been practicing for years: trauma informed care. She approached 60 Minutes with the story as someone who personally experienced childhood trauma herself. This approach to providing any type of social services has changed every aspect of her life. Watch the segment below (or read the article) to hear why trauma informed care is vital to help people attain happier, healthier lives.
MCCH understands that the experience of one night of homelessness can be a traumatic experience. That is why we focus on meeting people where they are and understanding how trauma impacts our clients’ daily lives, thus informing how we provide support. MCCH strives to ensure that we are always looking through a trauma-informed lens in order to best serve our clients.
Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless (MCCH) is a non-profit with the mission to provide solutions in Montgomery County to ensure that homelessness is rare, brief, and nonrecurring. Learn more about MCCH.
